Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers of Champions
Creamy, spicy jalapeno halves wrapped in crispy bacon strips make the perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer for game day or holiday parties.
Ingredients
- 18 fresh jalapeno peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 (5.25 ounce) package frozen vegetarian bacon strips, thawed
- toothpicks
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Fill each jalapeno half with cream cheese.
- Wrap 1 bacon strip around each jalapeno half and secure with a toothpick.
- Arrange wrapped jalapenos on baking sheet.
- Bake 12 minutes in preheated oven, or until bacon strips are crisp.
- Serve warm.
Cook’s Notes
Wear gloves when seeding jalapenos to avoid irritation, and make sure the cream cheese is fully softened so it’s easy to pipe or spoon into the pepper halves. Keep an eye on the oven near the end of baking since bacon strips can go from crisp to burnt quickly.
Ingredient Swaps
Regular bacon can be used in place of the vegetarian bacon strips if you don’t need a meatless option, and shredded cheddar can be mixed into the cream cheese for extra flavor. Cream cheese can also be swapped for a garlic-herb or chive-flavored spreadable cheese.
Serving Suggestions
Serve these poppers warm straight from the oven as a party appetizer, alongside ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, and reheat in a 350°F oven for about 8-10 minutes to re-crisp the bacon. Microwaving works in a pinch but the bacon will be softer.
Common Questions
Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes, you can assemble the wrapped jalapenos up to a day ahead, cover, and refrigerate until ready to bake.
How do I reduce the spiciness?
Removing all seeds and the white membrane from the jalapenos will significantly reduce their heat.
Can I use regular bacon instead of vegetarian bacon strips?
Absolutely, regular bacon works well but may need a slightly longer bake time to crisp up fully.
