Missing Hunters Found Dead After Extensive Search in Conejos County

After an extensive search, the bodies of two missing hunters, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, both 25, were found in Conejos County, Colorado, on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The two men, from Asheville, North Carolina, and Salt Lake City, Utah, respectively, had been elk hunting in the Rio Grande National Forest since September 11.

Their vehicle was found at the Rio De Los Pinos Trailhead with their camping gear and backpacks inside, which raised concerns due to recent heavy rain and bad weather. The search involved more than 54 teams, including ground teams, drones, and helicopters.

Family members confirmed the tragic news on a GoFundMe page, stating that the bodies were discovered by Colorado Search and Rescue. The Conejos County Sheriff’s office stated that the bodies were recovered two miles from the trailhead. A coroner reported that there were no obvious signs of trauma, and the cause of death is pending an autopsy.
